How to Spend New Year's Eve

Today is the last day of the year 2012...

The day after my birth day (congratulate me on Facebook or Twitter!)
The day we all reminisce about the past...

We all know
what this means...

PARTY!

Or stay home with family...

But whatever it is that you choose,
let it be
your own choice.

Many people claim that the end of the year is a time where you get to reflect upon the past, and make resolutions to change the things they didn't like. This is a very common thing to do...

But why do people wait until the end of the year? Simply because it is the end of the year and, psychologically, they feel it is a new beginning for their lives?

If so, that is the wrong kind of thought process you have, my friend.

Think of it this way instead: your life in continuing, and you are going to continue to make mistakes. Only the calendar is changing some measly little numbers to make you feel like you are moving forward...

However, now that you realize how many mistakes you have committed this year, you are going to try and make things right whenever the opportunity comes about next year. But it really doesn't matter about the years, if you think about it! You are the one with the power, and you are the only one who can make choices for yourself!

It's your time to shine at any given moment, so don't wait! Most people don't live to be a hundred years old... And how old are you now? Don't be lazy, do the quick math! ;-)

This is why the phrase "live with no regrets" has become so popular...

This is why the phrase "life is too short" has become so popular...

And this is why "stay calm and keep trucking" is so damn good to hear because YOU are the one in charge! No one can tell you how to live your life.

So, if you're really going to make that list full of new year's resolutions... Why not keep them with you every step of the way in 2013? Let's make it memorable, and stick to pledge you have given to yourself. Don't forget it, and make sure you mark each item off the list until it's all DONE!

Once it's done, you don't have to wait for the new year to start. Just make another list. Trust me, it's worth the results.

I hope you have a very Happy New Year!!!

Congratulations on making it through 2012!

2013, let's go!!!

How Are You, Really?

Dear Stranger,

The world seems so cold lately, and I'm not just talking about the atmosphere.

Even with the holidays here, people seem to be so distant... More reserved in their mannerisms, and less open to communication. I can't even smile at a passerby without receiving a blank expression in return, let alone say 'Hello' without a hesitance in reply. What's with that?

Maybe it's the shooting from Connecticut which have gotten people all goose-bumped, or maybe the criminal activity that goes on as seasonal promotional advertisements urge you to buy more (yet you receive so, so much less), or maybe it's the sense of insecurity in your bank account that comes along with the price tags of the holiday season. Or maybe it's just the weather. But man, whatever it is, it's bumming me out and you all need to stop acting so glum!

The point of festivity is to celebrate. Let's do that by cherishing what we have, grateful for what we had, and hopeful for better opportunities in the future. That is what the season is all about. Although it's a given, we should be able to have this same mindset all year-round (even if that challenge is a little daunting)...

Nevertheless, let's get chipper and let's get drunk - with happiness, of course!

I will be signing off on a positive note,  because nothing in the world can change my view on life itself. It is beautiful, and so are YOU!

All the best,

Emily Mendez

29 dead, 22 were children...

Yesterday,

As I was writing about how my life has taken a turn for the better, there was an elementary school shooting involving the deaths of 29 people -- 22 of those 29 were children.

As I wrote how I am turning 20 years old in a few more days, I learned of another 20 year old human being rampaging through an elementary school, shooting any sign of innocent life that was in the way of his wrath...

As I explained how my life had taken a turn for the worst this year, I had also learned of many other families experiencing the same deep sorrow. They will lament today and many days to come just as I have mourned this entire year...

His named was Adam Lanza. He was a 20 year old honor student with a history of autism. On December 14, he shot his mother while she was in her home, and proceeded to visit her place of work -- Sandy Hook Elementary School -- where he then shot and murdered 29 people in total. This included the school principal, psychologist, some teachers, and the remaining were children. He also did not hesitate to take his own life after taking theirs.

To the families of Newtown, CT, I wish your futures well. There is a purpose in everything, even if the reason is unclear... We must unite as a nation, gather our findings, and proceed to re-evaluate and utilize the information gathered. This is our chance to move forward, so that we may prevent this amount of tragic loss in the future. For you, for me, and for the rest of the world, this is a change which must be sought after.

While this is still big news, it will fade in a few days... The world does move on even while we are stuck in our own private bubbles of personal emotions. We do understand, and we wish you much happiness in the future... No one should have to go through this, ever.

You are all loved, including your children and the affected adults of this event. But as I say this, I must also emphasize that we must move forward and act upon this even while we are at our worst. Let's make this memorable in such a way as to honor of the lives which have been lost.

May peace be with all of you soon,

Emily

Your NEW CHAOTIC Future!

Season's Greetings,

I am super excited for the CHAOTIC FUTURE which lies ahead!

As many people already know (and as many, many people don't know yet), the year 2012 has been quite an emotional, physical, and mental roller coaster for me. I have moved to a different country, learned a different language, became part of an embracing foreign culture, learned the importance of maintaining social relationships, and have grown into a full-fledged adult in less than 6 month's time!

Impressive, right?

Well, I turn 20 years old by the end of December... But I'm still feeling pretty young. Everyone says that I'm still in the baby stage... still supposed to be discovering life, living to the fullest until I get tired of it all... but I sincerely beg to differ. Everyone is always evolving, and there's no stopping this amazing time warp! Wanting to show the world that you're better than what it offers doesn't mean you're immature, young, or too naive to see the big picture...

That IS the big picture, mate!

This is why I've decided to start up a new blog... So that anyone who wants to become someone can feel inspired to live their life a little larger every day. Subscribe right now and feel the inspiration flow right through you on the daily. ;-)

Welcome to the greener side, my friend.

You are in for a joyride!

Your friend,

Emily Mendez
